It can be a single word or a number of words too.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Example:<\/b> <em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brazil<\/span><\/em> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has won the world cup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sub\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Predicate\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Kinds of sentences &#8211; part 1\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assertive\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interrogative\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imperative\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Optative\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exclamatory\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>1. Assertive Sentence\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is called<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Assertive sentence. It is also called \u201cDeclarative sentence\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Example: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He speaks English very well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two types of assertive sentences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Affirmative: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conveys the validity or truth of a basic assertion.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Example:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I do have a car\/ He knows it well\/ We have a good neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Negative: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is formed by placing auxiliary verbs(am\/is\/are\/was\/were\/shall\/should\/could etc.) +not&#8211; before the main verb to express something false.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Example:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ex. I do not have a car\/ He does not know it well\/ We do not have a good neighborhood.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Interrogative Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sentence that generally asks questions is called an Interrogative sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Example: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who are you talking to? Or Is he home?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interrogative sentences start with the auxiliary verbs (to-be verbs)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or, Wh-words\/ Relative pronouns (who\/ when\/whom etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>3. Imperative Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a kind of sentence that gives orders, commands, or advice and expresses proposals, or requests in order to make a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Example:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leave the place at once\/Always <a href=\"https:\/\/10minuteschool.com\/skills\/courses\/14\/ghore-boshe-spoken-english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">speak<\/a> the truth etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imperative sentences can be negative too.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a subject, the second person \u201cYOU\u201d stays invisible.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>4. Optative Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A type of sentence that expresses a wish, desire, prayer or curse is called an Optative sentence<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Example:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> May God bless you\/ Long live our president\/ I hope you do well.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basically starts with \u201cMay\u201d but sometimes \u201cMay\u201d stays h<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">idden. Simple structure \u2013 May\/ Wish\/ Hope+ Assertive<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>5. Exclamatory Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An exclamatory sentence declares a simple statement but also conveys strong emotion or excitement and always ends with an exclamation (!) mark.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Example:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> How peaceful the scenario is! or, If I had so much money!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starts with What or How: sometimes with \u201cHad\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bravo, Alas, Hurrah, Oh, etc. \u2013 can also be used to begin the sentence<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kinds of Sentence- Part 2<\/b><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simple\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complex &amp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compound\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>1. Simple Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sentence that has only one (principal) clause, is known as a simple sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 subject + 1 finite verb = Simple sentence<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Example<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Kamal wants to read this book<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Complex Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sentence that has only one principal clause and one or more subordinate clauses is known as a complex sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P. Clause+Sub-ord clause<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sub-ord clause + P. Clause<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Example:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Clause+ Sub-ord clause = I believe that he is honest.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Sub-ord clause + P. Clause = Although he is poor, he is honest.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>3. Compound Sentence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sentence having more than one principal clause connected by one, or more coordinating conjunctions is called a Compound sentence.
