Preposition

Preposition 

Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে অন্য একটি শব্দকে modify করে বাক্য গঠন করে। 

Example: He came from England.

• Sometimes, it can also be used before a gerund, adjective, adverb, and verb.

Example:

I got the money in full- before an adjective.

Go away from here – before the adverb.

Types of Preposition 

Simple = on, in, at, by 

Complex = along with, by dint of, because of

Usage of preposition 

On/In/At

Day/Date	On	The meeting was held on Monday
Month	In	He was born in March
Year	In	I was in a hospital last year
Time	At	I will see you at 5 pm

On

• Date/Date ছাড়াও direction বুঝাতে =  In Bangladesh, we drive on the right side of the road.
• Before a horizontal or vertical surface = on the table, on the wall.
• চলমান যান এর ক্ষেত্রে = They are on the plane.
• To indicate any reason/ground/fact = He was arrested on a charge of theft.

In

• Season/month/year/decade ছাড়াও দিনের যেকোনো একটি সময়ের পূর্বে: I usually get up in the morning.
• দেশ বা রাস্তার নাম: My friend lives in India/ The house is in Mirpur Road, Dhaka.
• Permanent কাজের কথা বুঝাতে: My brother is in the Army.
• চূড়ান্ত ফলাফল কী হয়েছিল তা জানাতে: In the end, we sold our property.
• বড় Place-এর ক্ষেত্রে: I live in Dhaka.

At

• ছােট Place-এর ক্ষেত্রে at ব্যবহার করা হয়:  I live at Gulshan in Dhaka.
• Before the end of/the beginning of month/week/year: I will see you at the end of January. 
• To refer any meal time: Please call me at lunchtime.
• কারোর প্রতি বা কোনাে দিকে বুঝাতে: He is gazing at me.
• Shocked/ alarmed/ delighted-জাতীয় adjective-এর পরে: I was shocked at his father’s death.

 

For	Used to express how long something is/was going on or continues	My father has been living here for months.
During	Used to say when something has happened/happens	It must have rained during the night.
Above, over	When one is at a higher level than another, we use  either over or above	The plane was flying above/over the clouds.
Over	To mean something/someone more than in age or speed	My grandfather is now over ninety.
Above	In case of measurements or temperature or height	The temperature is three degrees above zero.
Across	Often used to mean the other side of something, like river/border/bridge, etc.	His house is just across the border.
Since/ For	Point of time – Since Period of time- for	He has been here since Friday last. I haven’t seen my brother for a long time.
Since/ from	Point of time বোঝাতে since-এর পাশাপাশি from ও ব্যবহার করা হয়। কিন্তু since শুধুমাত্র perfect tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়।	He has been here since Friday last.
Before/ By	Specific সময় বা specific সময়ের আগে  বুঝাতে before এবং by ব্যবহার করা হয়।	We have to be at home by/before 6 o’clock (৬টা বা তার আগে, কোনোভাবেই পরে নয়)
With	Inanimate কোনো কিছুর ক্ষেত্রে with বসে	The duck was shot by my father with a rifle.
Between/ Among	দুটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে between এবং দুইয়ের অধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে among ব্যবহার করা হয়-	Mr. Karim divided the food between his two sons. I found my pen among all my academic files.
In/ into	কোনো কিছুর ভিতরে থাকা বা কোনো কিছুর অবস্থা বুঝাতে in ব্যবহার করা হয়- আবার কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর এক অবস্থা থেকে অন্য অবস্থায় রূপান্তর বুঝাতে in না হয়ে into ব্যবহার করা হয়-	There is no water in the glass The ice melts into water
To/ Towards /Up	দিক বা লক্ষ্য বুঝাতে To বা towards বা Up ব্যবহার করা হয়।	He is going to school (school-এ যাচ্ছে)  He is going towards school (school-এর দিকে যাচ্ছে )

• In some cases, Prepositions have no usage. Such as, in cases of Transitive verb and Adverbial phrases.
